Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Hot

Right off the bat I’ve got to admit that my biggest gripe, like many others, with Kill Team is the lack of co-op over Xbox Live. Sure, local co-op can be fun, but I would have gladly paid $5 more for Xbox Live support being added to the co-op. I played the game solo because everyone I play games with is not local to me. Which would not be a big deal except that Kill Team is clearly setup as a co-op game. The levels are really hard solo, and as far as I could see there is not a difficulty setting. Even the menu setup is laid out for 2 players.

Setting aside the lack of Live co-op Kill Team is great. It is basically twin stick shooter controls with a few extra buttons for specials and melee attacks. The camera is a ¾ view most of the time, but it does rotate lower in a few areas. This leads to a few cases where the camera is not quite where you want it but I never had a major problem with it. Being set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe makes it more fun for me as a Dawn of War fan.

Because it is a Warhammer 40,000 game you have tons of enemies coming at you to destroy with powerful weapons. I like this about the gameplay. Even the bosses do not take too long to finish off – assuming you can avoid their attacks and land some shots on them. The levels are fairly lengthy for this style of game at 30 or 40 minutes each, but you are constantly making progress through them so the go by quickly. There is not a lot of strategy in Kill Team. Sure, you need to keep an eye on your special attack meter and power-ups, but otherwise it is just fun mindless orc killing.

Kill Team is the kind of game I love to end the day with. I don’t have to think too hard and I can enjoy the game’s universe and graphics. It may not be for everyone, but if you have a friend who will play couch co-op with you I’d highly recommend checking it out.
