Greed Corp Hot

The gameplay and idea of the game is pretty solid. It is a survival game as you gather resources and outsmart your enemies. It can get pretty intense and mindbending and there is offline and online co op.

Here is the problem. The controls are terrible and overly confusing. You need people to sit down with you for at least an hour to just understand how to play the game. For most having people come over and trying to learn this game will be too frustrating.

This is very unfortunate since I like the premise of the game and the rules. I just wish they did the controls better.

I won this game in a contest a while back, and I think I'd like it a lot more if I understood how to play it. Maybe someone here could help me? The game tutorial seems overwhelming to me, and there isn't a lot of explanation as to why you are making the moves in-game...just the tutorial telling you to do the things it asks. Maybe I need to read the instructions better or find online documentation? Graphics are kind of cool, though...kind of "Monster's Inc." meets "Wall-E" -esque? Maybe...maybe not.

I love that the matches are pretty quick (around 20 minutes), and that you only have a few unit types to work with. Yet there are still a lot of possible strategies to employ.

Visually it looks nice and the soundtrack fits it perfectly.

The unique thing is that as you harvest resources parts of the map are destroyed making it a constant balancing game to get resources but not back yourself into a corner.

Greed Corp scratches an itch on XBLA that nothing else does. Sure, there are other turn-based games on Arcade, but they don't offer a lot of diversity or uniqueness - they just aren't memorable.

Thankfully, Greed Corp seems to be the sleeper hit that can change that. The basic premise is that whenever intense action happens (harvesting resources, cannon bombardment, etc), the fragile ground below begins to sink. If the ground sinks too much, it simply collapses, taking any and all nearby fragile ground with it. Within very little time, the battlefield can completely fall away, preventing classic tactics of turtling or attempting to 'lock' enemies in stasis.

Greed Corp comes with 4 campaigns, one for each of the different factions, and full online support. The game is a little complex to get into, and the tutorial doesn't really do a good job of explaining the tactics to the player, only the raw mechanics, so the campaigns act as a good 'learn by doing' tutorial to tackle the pros online.

Out of all the strategy games on XBLA, Greed Corp is certainly the one that has me hooked, and with achievements, avatar awards, and excellent online/Xbox party support, it's got a leg up on all the other contenders for my time.
