Lemmy Lizard vs. The Mecha-Eggs

With a title like Lemmy Lizard vs. The Mecha Eggs, I had to check this game out. You control the title character Lemmy, who is tasked to explore various locales, collect items, and above all else, protect the egglets. Sounds simple enough, right? Your quest will put your skills to the test countless times, as you progress through harrowing platform sections and face off with some of the meanest Mecha-Eggs around. This is the kind of game where you're probably going to die, over and over. The platform aspect requires nimble moves and precise use of the controls, or else certain doom awaits. One issue I had with this is that the controls aren't excellent, which causes some issues. If you want to make me land insane platform jumps, that is fine, but give me the controls I need to do so. The controls here feel too loose, as if Lemmy is floating at times. This causes jumps to be sketchy at times, especially when it comes to trickier moves. On the plus side, the combat controls work quite well, with a standard kick attack and a spit attack. Picking up items is also no problem whatsoever.

While the game can be difficult, you do have an arsenal of power-ups to help even the odds. You can find special items like carrots and pineapples, which provide you with a temporary boost in one aspect of your skills. You might be able to breathe molten flame on your enemies, run like the wind, regain a portion of your health, and so on. A nice selection of these power-ups can be found and you can store them, which is awesome. That means you don't waste pick-ups and can unleash a boost at just the right moment. Of course, there is a catch, as you have limited space for the goodies. Even so, you have enough room to tuck away ample power-ups to keep you alive and well. The combat is tough, but if you pay attention to the game's scroll system, you'll thrive. The scrolls contain advice on various elements and if you overlook this information, be prepared to die often.

While survival is the basic idea in Lemmy Lizard vs. The Mecha Eggs, there is a second layer to the experience. A score system is in place, complete with special multipliers. So if you feel like you've mastered an area, put yourself to the test and see if you pull in an insane score. As always, the scrolls are invaluable for this aspect as well, since they contain good advice on how to elevate your score and multipliers. And since there is a score involved, of course we have leaderboards. So once you finish the game, trounce your friends' scores and want more, take on the scores of the world's best. You'll need to be one heck of a player if you want to get close to the top, but the chase is fun. The score system is a great inclusion, as it adds ample replay value and keeps you going back to eke out every last possible point.

As far as presentation, the game has an old school texture, but looks quite good. The side scrolling worlds are bright and cartoon in nature, which is cool. The detail is good though, so this isn't a slapped together game, you'll notice a lot of little touches if you take the time. The character designs continue the cartoon style approach, especially when it comes to Lemmy. He looks quite cool and his enemies might look like cartoons, but they will snap you in half in an instant. You'll also love the blood that sprays everywhere during combat, it makes quite a sight when mixed with the cartoon inspired visuals. In short, a lot of attention to detail went into the game's look and it pays off. This game costs you a buck and for that price, you're given a wealth of content. A solid platformer with great visuals, Lemmy Lizard vs. The Mecha Eggs is well worth the 80 points.
