Wacky action-packed fun.

Lair Of The Evildoer is a highly enjoyable cross between a lighthearted RPG and a twin stick shooter.
You control one of Dr Odious' test subjects that, upon failing to impress the evil mastermind, decides to resist being terminated and escape from the fortress he's been trapped in. Ahead of you lie 25 floors packed with evil minions that want to stop you, and you'll have to blast your way through them if you wish to get out alive.
The game plays from a semi top down view and controls like a twin stick shooter, with movement mapped to the left stick and aiming to the right. Squeezing the right trigger fires your selected weapon (of which you can carry two) and hitting the right bumper causes a melee attack. Killing enemies rewards you with XP which, when you level up, are converted into stat points that can be assigned to various attributes that affect things like damage dealt, accuracy, your life gauge, and so on.
There are a ton of different weapons to be found, and they can be compared with the ones you are currently holding to help you decide which ones are worth keeping. There are also a whole load of different enemies to slaughter on your way to freedom, some of which have special attributes which make them faster, stronger, explosive, or immune to projectiles.
The rooms on each floor are generated procedurally, so you'll have to explore carefully to find the stairs down to the next level. This also helps add a good amount of replayability to the title, as no two playthroughs will be exactly the same.
Lair Of The Evildoer is immensely fun to play, it may not be the prettiest game around but the action is fast-paced and highly satisfying. At only 80MSP, I'd thoroughly recommend picking this one up.

An RPG with an Attitude!

This wacky, and bloody RPG game features one of the most hateful evil doctors I have ever seen. From the beginning of the game the evil Dr. Odius is constantly putting you down with his insults. In fact when you first pick a name he gives another one just out of spite. I entered my name as OtakuDante, and the Doctor called me Gertrude!!! After he gets through naming you some whacked out name, he puts you through the ringer with some tasks that amount to nill. When he's finished with that he calls his goons to come and get you. Then the adventure starts.

Lair of the Evildoer is a semi-top down RPG that pits you against all of the Doc's minions on multiple floors of a labyrinth type layout. With each floor you make it through, and every time you level up RPG style the enemies will also become more difficult to defeat. The enemies in Lair of the Evildoer range from zombie type creatures to frog like creatures. There are even bosses in the mix that require careful strategy, and tactics to defeat.

The controls in Lair of the Evildoer are easy to learn. The two thumbsticks are used for character movement. The right bumper is used for the melee weapon, and the right trigger is used to fire the guns. In order to switch between melee, and the guns you must press the 'Y' button. The 'X' button is used to reload the guns, while the 'A' button is used to open crates and doors. You can even interact with computers with the 'A' button.

There are many different types of weapons in this game that include various types of baseball bats, SMGs, tommy guns, and so on. I noticed that there was even a boomstick in the game. I guess I picked up on this since I'm an Evil Dead fan. During the game you'll find that some weapons are more effective on certain types of enemies. Bats (melee weapons) are often good on flying pests like the zombees. Aside from your main weapon you also have a sidearm that's a pistol type of weapon. The sidearm has infinite ammo, and can get you out of some sticky situations.

As you progress through the many floors of the building you will find crates. The red crates will produce health refills which are often necessary to survive the game. Other crates that are brown will either contain newer weapons, or ammo refills which are a must if you want to stand a chance in making it further into the game. These crates can be found frequently throughout the rooms which is a good thing. I found strategically using ammo, and health items is definitely needed.

The game as a whole is very enjoyable, and sometimes rather frustrating to play. When you die in a room and start over you are left with the same life as you had when you died. This makes it hard to progress through some parts of the game where harder enemies crowd you. In some rooms I had to repat the area several times before finally making it past, and finding a health refill. I think it would be a good improvement if the life bar was replenished when you restart an area. Other than that I had lots of fun playing this game. For an 80 msp ($1) price tag this title is definitely worth getting.

An amazing action RPG with high production quality

Lair of the Evildoer is amazing action RPG with high production quality and bargain pricing. Fans of Diablo and other rogue-likes will find this game appealing. Weapons come in different flavors with modifications such as “SMG of Haste” or “Pistol of Slaying”. Levels are randomly generated which leads to high replay value. Enemies are varied in level and strength with different attack styles that keeps the player on their toes. Some foes may rush in for melee while others blast you at range. The leveling up system is balanced and meaningful. The writing is clever and the graphics are top notch for an xblig title. For a 80 MSP this game is a steal.
