This is a game for anyone, even if you can't play/don't like checkers.

There's a training/practice mode called playbook for newbies to checkers (like me) and a cool storyline adventure mode.

And did anyone else sprint all the way back to the front door when you first saw the poltergiest thing?

This is probably the greatest XBLIG titles I have seen in a very long time. I bought the game for 1$ before getting the trail, which is something I never do. Just because it was in the top rated, and was only a dollar. I got into the game thinking it would just be a game of checkers. Boy, was I wrong! The game starts, looking at this giant castle. First thing I do? Turn around and jump off the cliff. As I hit the bottom, I go looking around. Although I couldn't do anything, I loved being down there. I am walking around, and I see a little message pop up, telling me I have someone in my lobby. I invite them to my party, but he/she didn't have a mike. They send me a message, 'Stuck in the pit?' I laugh to myself, and start talking through my mike, knowing that the fellow xboxer is hearing me. Eventually I get bored, and move on to Call of Duty. Only then do I get a message back, telling me that he has his mike. I answer him back that I am playing COD, and not bloody checkers anymore. The message that I receive is 'I just wanted to show you a cool Easter egg I found on the menu'. I go back to bloody checkers, and invite the guy to my party, and find out he is the developer of the game! We talk to each other for over an hour, me thinking this is one of the coolest moments of my life! I then vow to play no other games besides 'Bloody checkers', until I beat the 30+ hour campaign. And I have no regrets. This game is a must have for any person that owns an Xbox 360...I cant believe it is only 1 dollar!

This game is one of my favorite games, I buy lots of XLIG's due to most of them being just a $1. Although most of the time I waste a $1 this time was definitely different. I was looking for an RPG based Indie game and game across a title that caught my attention. A game that not only had RPG aspects but also aspects of a very simple board game known as checkers. When I started playing it I was thinking this was just another chess game so I hadn't bought it yet. I was playing the trial and I was having so much fun with the RPG style game. I had to buy it, $1 could either buy me a pack of gum or an Indie game. In this case I'm so happy I chose "Bloody Checkers." I am so excited for the free update coming out in the next few days. All updates for this game are free. I have spoken worth the creator of Bloody Checkers himself and he has exclaimed to me very proudly that this update is HUGE! I hope all Xbox Live users go download the trial version Bloody Checkers.

This game makes checkers less boring and adds a awesome twist! I would tell anyone to buy it! Can't beat it for 1$!!

FYI update is now available and well worth the d/l!! I just updated my game of BloodyCheckers and the only thing I can say is WOW and still only 80ms pts!! This was a good game before but now it’s a great game. If anyone was waiting to buy this they need to buy it now if you ever played checkers in your life (who hasn’t) or if you like dungeon crawlers/RPG type games. Those that already own this need to revisit it. As for the main quest they added new textures to everything in the castle AND some surprises as well (hint: killing bats that scare you at first help you earn gold)! And they have added a whole new section where it teaches the finer art of checkers for anyone looking to go pro or just get better at the game so you can show off to your friends. Oh and there is a multiplayer available over Live that I’m not sure was there before (I play only single player games for the most part) This game is a steal now….get it before they increase the price. I bought it when it first came out and I’m so glad the update is out finally!

Great game play....hours of truly challenging gaming to be found in the little gem of a title, tons of cool features and secrets to be found as well....there is NOTHING else like this available in the marketplace...absolutely worth the points it costs to pick it up!!!

There is an amazing amount of fun in this excellent indie title. It's a great mixture of creepy first person adventuring and a nuanced way to play checkers that actually makes checkers fun and addicting again! It's a super good value for a truly fun and innovative game.

How does he get all this game play in such a small package? And for only a buck! I never knew there was so much history on checkers!!

This game received a 10 in my take on this wonderfully cheap (when you buy it, numbskull), and addicting trial on the classic game of checkers. the characters are humorous and original, "Creaky" Your servant during the adventure, can help you find games, and secrets, along with keeping an inventory of his own, when you wanna buy something, you can talk to him. there's even little traps you can set on the field to inflict some serious damage to the opposing player that isnt to altar the game except to cause blood this side of Mortal Kombat standards in the amount.

Overall, this game needs more viewers, as this game wasnt made within a day. unlike most of the garbage you find on the market nowadays, filled with crud (I'm looking at you, Angry fish, and Sequence)and other dissapointments, Bloody CHeckers is worth the dollar you put into it, and besides, a new update is coming for it, which will include new content such as killable outworld enemies, and a new follower with different items. It's a great game, guys, dont pas this up. BUY IT.

The AI in here is a crafty and skilled opponent and will keep you on your toes. But if this game was just checkers, it would be good, but not spectacular. Its what else this package brings that makes it outstanding.

Bloody Checkers wraps itself in a first person adventure of sorts. You enter a mysterious dungeon and instead of fighting enemies to proceed, you must play checkers against haunted painting of dead nobles. When you first start a match, you can get set one of traps on a board.When an opponent(or you) land on a trap, it springs, your piece gets bloody and money goes to you or your opponent. In addition to the traps, there are also four attacks, like axes or arrows, that fall from above, and if they hit a piece, give you exp. If you win, you get more gold and gems.

The gold is more important that the EXP, as it buys traps, as well as important items to carry around, like a harp that finds hidden rooms, oil that prevents your candle from burning out, or key that open locked doors. You buy these items from a skeleton named Creaky, either from his store painting or from him directly if he’s following you or you find you walking around.

This game has everything, including superb multiplayer to boot !! All these things combined makes BloodyCheckers a MUST BUY !!

I have been playing BloodyCheckers for the past 3 months, and I can honestly say it is the best indie game I have ever played by a long shot. I have a love for strategy in games, and checkers strategy is so much fun to figure out. The game literally teaches you checkers in the training missions. These were a great addition to the game and can turn a checkers novice into a seasoned novice. There are intense online matches against friendly people that always end in you learning a new technique, or getting some money back from your traps. Also this game has the best multiplayer system for a 1 vs. 1 game I have ever seen, just to add to the list of accolades. What exactly makes this game the best indie game on the micro level? I finally got around to playing BloodyCheckers after all the great reviews the last few weeks and I probably had my hopes to high but I was disappointed. The graphics and sound were ok, but not great.

The game play is what really matters and while I did like the game overall it could really have used a good tutorial to explain all the things that are added beyond just the normal checkers stuff. I had traps and spells but it took me a while to figure out why I would want to use them.

If you like checkers but want to try something different then BloodyCheckers is worth checking out. The multiplayer over Live is a nice touch, but be prepared to do some experimenting to figure everything out.

The game will surprise anyone who tries it, there is so much more to this title than just checkers.

You get to explore a huge castle, search for hidden treasure, unlock secret areas, interact with objects and inhabitants of the castle and dungeon and so much more.

Worth far more than the $1 asking price, I challenge anyone to give it a try and attempt not to get addicted!

It's all true. This is by far the best Indie game I purchased, and I have been playing it for 2 weeks. I have decided to start telling people about it because it is so much fun and has so much value for the 80 ms points. The game is fantastic and gets very high marks for the graphics, audio and gameplay. What I really like is the tiniest details in the game especially in the castle and the checker battles.

I hope other people can find the same enjoyment that many people already are in this Indie game BloodyCheckers. I discovered this game a month after it was released and was thinking errr checkers.....but the game is 25% checkers and a lot of RPG, and I mean REAL RPG stuff not the boring or weird RPG stuff you find on Indie games....This is old school RPG which makes it great fun to play !!

I'm not going to lie, when I first saw the reviews on this site I was skeptical to say the least, but BloodyCheckers has blown me away. Checkers itself is already fun to play, but BloodyCheckers brings it to a whole new level. First of all the game is half adventure half checkers. The adventure part is you running through a castle, solving puzzles and opening gates. Along the way you have to battle portraits in checkers to open gates. It is very well done. The graphics are amazing to say the least, plus the audio fits right in to the game.

Like multiplayer to? Well BloodyCheckers makes it easy. Instead of waiting for a lobby to open up you just hit the b button in single player and you have opened your lobby. Then you can explore the castle at your leisure, and when someone joins your multiplayer lobby you can hit b again to place yours bets and start playing.

The game of checkers itself is aided by things like traps and spells. Traps get you money and spells get you exp. Everytime your opponent lands on a trap, you get money and a bit of points to do magic with. In order for your traps to be profitable, you need an opponent to land on each trap 2 or 3 times, depending on the type of trap. This leads you into a game of micromanaging the board, as well as your traps. If you do it right, you will make a ton of money and win.

What is this new game called "BloodyCheckers" you ask yourself. Well it's one thousand times more then checkers that's for sure !! "Bloodycheckers" is quickly becoming the new BLOODSPORT of Indie Games !!


The game opens with an immersive 3D adventure - where you find yourself on a cliff-side facing a creepy dark castle. You begin by finding a candle, lighting it, and then saving your progress on the fiery torch. Once you find the key (oh yes) then you can unlock the heavy wooden door and enter. The castle is a huge organized structure of many floors, hallways and rooms filled with treasure, traps, and treasure !! Well you soon find out that you need to defeat these creepy portraits of dead people in a violent, bloody game of checkers to proceed through the next iron gate.


Throughout this (30 hour?) adventure you will get to meet a floor full of dead servants, an arrogant group of Nobles, and a floor filled with old dead members of the royal family. When you play them in checkers you get to set up to seven secret traps that you have purchased in the castle with Gold. These traps stay hidden on the board until your opponent lands on it....this causes the trap to spring in a very awesome bloody spewing event !! The traps get your gold, silver, experience and even energy charges to power up your mini-flag. Once you have learned some magic attack spells, you can use these to DIRECTLY attack your opponent in checkers making the game so bloody and violent, and the board covered in holes, burns, and cracks that your not even sure this is checkers anymore. BLOODSPORT !!


Yeah, so you level up.....every 5 levels you rank up and this allows you to explore more darker areas of the castle, and discover more portraits. The coolest things in the castle are in portraits that you can buy or learn. And there are 3D NPC's waling around too....I won't spoil it. If that wasn't enough for your measly 80 points....you get online multiplayer mode where everything you learn in the castle applies to your BLOODSPORT online !! Also there is a cool Thank You page from the Nyan Cat, and a huge selection of hand crafted lessons taught to you by some dark knight....at least 90 training lessons which pays you in gold when you complete each section perfectly.

If you can't take the pressure you can RAGEQUIT !! The checkerboard cracks into pieces and checkers go flying, right in your opponents face !! And guess what? You level up on your rage quitting status which is beautifully displayed on your flag when you play single player and online. The game has a very elegant hand crafted, well thought out atmosphere and ambiance that you have to see.

There is more to this game than one might think. Check out the trial, you will love it. Oh, don't forget to light your candle.

I have been up for 19 hours straight playing BloodyCheckers.

Last night I went to the xbox live game market place and saw BloodyCheckers. After hearing some reviews on the game I decided to try it. This game being only one dollar will amaze you in many ways. As you enter the game, the 3D menu will be the first thing you come in contact with. Being the hardcore gamer that I am, this game has not yet slowed down the exciting pace that you will experience throughout the entire game. In the Main Menu, which is filled with awesome 3D graphics, I noticed under Help&Options was my gamertag . Pressing this brought me to a surprise ThankYou from the Nyan Cat – WOW !! Also under the Controls Section the controller was even 3D and animated when I pressed the buttons on the controller in my hand. So, I started to play single player.

Starting outside the castle after an amazingly fast loading screen you will be greeted with a couple of warm welcoming things. After finding the key to the castle door and your candle, you are ready to start your adventure. I noticed a gold picture frame that records all the people you play with online, more about that later. Also, make sure you save your game on a lit torch by clicking the A button. The first thing I did when I walked down the creepy hallway was play a game of checkers against the first portrait - Margorie the Seamstress. Beating her then unlocked a gate so I could adventure onwards. I found a new torch, lit it, and saved my progress. In my opinion exploring the 3D castle is the best part of the game. After beating a few more opponents I moved on to the second floor.

Opponents here got harder. While exploring the castle and facing opponents you will have the opportunity to buy spells and traps to use on the board. I also experienced a few opponents rage quit after I started beating their asses. They can only rage quit after you beat them once already. I can’t describe the satisfaction after owning the crap out of a tuff opponent that has beat you beforehand. After a couple more hours of gameplay I had almost finished the second floor. The castle has so many hidden surprises and creepy things that I couldn't put down my controller. Then I played a little bit online.

Once you play online, you're History Portrait in the castle becomes active, and you can see all the people you met and defeated online . And you can control it - very cool. Also I have been playing all the lessons in the Playbook for extra gold, and it really helps your online gameplay !! There also is a lot of story if you care to listen to Creaky, and he has a lot of things he can do......when he lets you trade items with him he sometimes runs out of things – and that's when you let him explore to find more gold and rare items for you. Back to single player....and finally beat the game.

When I beat the stuffing out of the final King (more than 1) you will be faced with a puzzle that is hard as hell but not impossible. When the vault like door is opened the end game surprise is fantastic. When you think the game is over…. ITS NOT!!! I have so much more stuff to do and it was all satisfying. I racked up so much gold by the end of the day I was able to buy all the keys at Creaky's Shop. Those were expensive as hell. If you go down stairs to the Catacombs you will get lost so bring Creaky just in case you can't find your way out. There is so much to this game you will be amazed. This game being only one dollar is a must buy for sure.
