I am guessing there are more people on the love side.
If you love games and you love a challenge you will love this game ^^
I think that kinda sums it up.
A series of very fair but hard challenges are in front of you and
the game is all about the satisfaction you feel from clearing this
levels.

I for one enjoyed it a lot and am still going through the final levels.

Recommended for the hard working gamers.

Super Meat Boy is the most unforgiving game I have ever played. This is why I love Super Meat Boy so much.

There are over 200 levels in this game and each level is harder than the last believe it or not. A key feature you have to be spot on with is the timing of your jumps and whether to make it a 'boosted' jump or not. Not only do you have to worry about an innumerable amount of stationary hazards, there are tons of flying obstacles such as sawblades, bullets and even homing missile type things.

Story-wise this games is maybe not the most in-depth thing but it is hilarious to watch unfold in the non-talking scenes between worlds. Story: Dr. Fetus steals your Girlfriend and you are on a journey to get her back. To complete a level you have to reach your Girlfriend. Once you reach her at the end of the level however, Dr. Fetus pops up and takes her away to the next level.

For each level you get under par time on, there is a dark version of that level which is harder than it's light world counterpart. I'm not saying the Light World levels are easy by any means, but the Dark World versions of the levels are just that much harder.

Overall, this game is for the inner masochist in all of us. You will die hundreds of times, maybe even thousands of times, maybe hundreds of thousands of times if you're dead set on beating every level in the Light and Dark worlds. This is worth the full 1200 MSP asking price, there is no doubt in my mind about that. But that being said, and as always, if you can get it for cheaper BUY IT!

Why would I use something like the number of deaths to indicate progress? Better yet, why does the game keep track of such a stat. Well, because you will find yourself dying. A lot. Super Meat Boy wants you to wear that number of deaths like a badge of honor. And you will.

This game oozes a charm that makes you want to play just "one more level" or give that uber-hard level that you have already died 3 dozen times on, "one more shot."

Its that charm that sets this game apart from the rest. Super Meat Boy is an excellent throw back to old school platformers. It has a gruelling difficulty. This however comes across as a positive though. The levels load FAST (the entire game is a mere 100MB download). So the constant retries do not take long and death never interrupts the action for more than a second or two. The controls are also spot-on and super sharp and responsive. So each death feels like your fault and never once did I feel the urge to “blame the game.”

This creates a game that makes each victory that much sweeter. As I started to get deeper into the game, I found some really HARD levels. But when I finally found victory over one of these stages, there were a few times where I literally yelled “YEA!” Needless to say the game gives you a great sense of accomplishment once you get through a stage.

The game has a huge amount of things in it to unlock as well. Scattered through each world are Bandages. The placement of these range from easy to reach to pull-out-your-hair hard. But with more bandages the more characters you unlock.

There are numerous other playable characters in Super Meat Boy, all of which come from other Indie Games (keep an eye out for Tim from Braid). Each of these characters each has a special power of their own. This power will make collecting bandages in some stages that much easier.

Aside from characters there is also a “Dark World” version of each level, unlocked after achieving a completion time that is under par. These Dark World levels are harder versions of their Light World counter-parts and include more traps and require much more finesse to get through.

Combine all that with great art design and humorous cut scenes that pay homage to games of the past and you have the making of a great game. I would highly recommend it to any one that is looking for a platforming game that shares a difficulty that the genre hasn’t seen since the days of old.
